OUR LOCAL PRESS.
{To the JSditor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sir, —Speculation is rife upon the position that the Westport Times and the Charleston Herald will assume towards each other under the new proprietors. Wednesday's issue of the Herald served to dispel some of the uncertainty, as the latter extracted some old articles which appeared in the " West Coast Times " against your new proprietor. When your readers learn, however, that the writer in the " W. C. Times" is Mr A. Reid, jour peripatet'c M.P C, it will no longer occasion surprise that a corner in that journal should be occasionally devoted to the most hostile, or, I may say, malignant criticism of a political colleague. This attempt to engender ill feeling and perpetuate discord had, however, better been left undone. If the loc il Press is to benefit the district let it throw aside all personal animosity and honestly endeavor to work amicably and zealously for the general good. By assuming a hostile position towards each other the two papers will be too much occupied in abusiDg each other to render any assistance in eradicating the many and serious abuses that threaten our prosperity.—Tours, &c, Progress. Charleston, March 2.
