COMMERCIAL.
The following is a return of the revenue collected at the Custom House, "Westporb for the month ended February 28, 1871: £ s. d. Customs' duties 776 1 10 Lighthouse dues 2 18 10 Fees under Merchant Shipping Act 0 8 9 Arms and amrmmition licenses ... ... ... 5 11 0 Other receipts ... ... 114 0 Gold duty 91 16 3 £B7B 10 8 The above abstract furnishes, we believe, the lowest amount of revenue for one month collected at this port during the past three years. The returns, when compared with those of the preceding month, exhibit a decrease of nearly 50 per cent., the figures for January being .£1668 4s lOd. In the gold duty there is a trifling improvement, but still we have only one small shipment to record during the month just ended. The export coasting trade has also been very dull during the month, shipments to Charleston and Brighton being almost nil, and we fear there will be little improvement for some time, owing to the exceptionally dry weather experienced during the past two months.
