THE AHAURA RACES.
The following is the result of the Grrey Valley Races : For the Trial iStakes the entries were not filled. The Packers' Purse, welter weights for age, mile heats, brought out a field pf six. The following entered and started : Mr R. Gough's Trooper (Sad.ller) 1 Mr L iiiargnii's Moss Rose (Coleman) ... 2 Mr Flower's Stockman (Cunningham) ... 3 Mr Stool's Native (Steel) 4 Mr-Mitchell's Robin Hood (ProJHtfc) ... 5 Mr Ferry's Pommy Distanced The Hurdle Handicap was a gift to Gamester, it being currently rumored that Native was lame. There was no alternative but a walk over. The Hack Races closed the first day's sport. In this race Trooper was again entered, though a protest was lodged, which, after enquiry bv the stewards, was disallowed. Th& horse had it all his own way, it being a splendid race for second place between Mr Fiower's Stockman and Mr Devery's colt Result, which was won by the former by half a neck, though not without a struggle down the straight running The second day's racing was opened with the Butchers' Purse, open to horses belonging to butchers who had resided in the district, which horses had never won an advertise! race of more than £2O. Catch weights. One mile heats. Mr M'Henry's Bismarck was declared the winner, though followed close by Mr Murisou's JS'imrod, the rest nowhere. The Grey Valley Handicap, of £l5O, was ths next event, and for which four horses started, viz., Mistletoe, Economy, Gamester, and Native. The distance was two miles and a half, and the following are the weights and result : Gamester, 6 yrs, 9st. lib \ Native, aged, 9st % Mistletoe, 4 yrs, 9*t Sib 3 Economy, 4 jrs, l()st 4
For the District Handicap there were seven entries, M'Kenna's Corsair, Bst 71b; Steel's Native, 9st; Flower's Stockman, 9st 41b ; Lonargan's Moss Rose, 9st 41b; Gough's Trooper, lOst;. Economy, lOst 41b ; Mitchell's Robin Mood. Bst 121b. This was a close race between Trooper and Moss Hose, but the horse proved too strong, and was declared the winner. Native fell dead lame, and an opinion prevails that he won't get over it.
For the Consolation Stakes there were but two entries, Economy and Result, but from the first it was evident that the money was Economy's. There were private races on Saturday, in which Moss liose, liobin Hood, Bismarck, Eesult, and several of our local horses took part, Bismarck winning one event, and showing that he has the elements to constitute him an awkward antagonist. The best contested race of the whole was between Bismarck and Moss Eose, which was almost, if not altogether, a dead heat, though Bismarck was declared the winner. Thus terminated the Ahaura Kaces for 1871, and we wish them every success in 1872.
