THE ELECTIONS.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) (FROM OUR (TWIT CORRESPONDENT.) Nelson, Tuesday. Messrs Curtis and Lightband were elected to-day for Nelson City. The numbers were : Curtis, 273 ; Lightband, 211 • Richmond, 159 ; Shephard, 99. Great efforts were made by the Curtis' party to secure the return of Mr Richmond. Dunedin, Tuesday. Mr Steward, editor of the " Oamaru Times." has been elected for the Waitaki District in the Assembly by a majority of 51 over Mr Macassey. Mr Ueid has been elected for the Taieri district in the Assembly by a majority of 72 over Mr Tolmie. There was great excitement in Dunedin about the Taieri election, Mr Reid being a candidate for the Superintendency. Wellington, Wednesday. The following is the result of the polling for the City :—Pearco, 381 ; Hunter, 366 ; Travers, 345 ; Richmond, 339. Borlase and Martin were nowhere. Feb. G. Tho Wellington elections are over, except for the city, which takes place to-morrow. The members elected are all Government supporters. The Celcano arrived yestcrd.iy with fifty-nine immigrants and twelve cabin passengers, including six nuns; two each for Hawke's Bay, Nelson, and Christchurch. She spoke the ship Glendower from London to Sydney, eighty-four days out, with the Roman Catholic Bishop Moran, and several priests and nuns, all well. The Governor sailed on Saturday, on the following tour:—llokitika, Martin's Bay, Milford Sound, Dusky Bay, Stewart's Island, and Bluff, which he will reach by the Ist March. ■ He is accompanied by Commodore Stirling and will visit Dunedin and the interior of Otago, Canterbury, aud Westland. The return to Wellington will be by the middle of April, Dr Hector accompanies the Governor and will examine the geological and other features of the country and mark points for settlements.
