Cheistchuech, Jan. 13
The Superintendent (Mr Rolleston) has been returned by the Avon district in the General Assembly without opposition. Three electors and two non-electors were present. Mr George Allen, an old settler, died suddenly to-day. "Wellington, Jan. 13.
At the nomination to-day there were for Porirua, two candidates, Brandon and Gillon. The show of hands was in favor of the former, who is considered certain to be returned. Auckland, Jan. 9. Via the Thames.
The p.s Luna returned from Kawau with tho Prince, who leaves on the 14th.
The City of Melbourne sailed at midnight on the 7th, with fifty-two passengers, including Mr Vogel, Mrs Vogel, Mr Gray, of the Post Office, Mr Fox, Secretary to Mr Vogel, Mr aud Mrs H. H. Hall, Mr and Mrs Bandman, Mr Domett. All is quiet in the "Waikato. Colonel Lyon, with a hundred men, is watching the natives.
Mrs Moody fell dead yesterday, coming out of church.
The Governor and Lady Bowen are expected to proceed south on the 16th, and to be absent six weeks.
Arrived. Kate, from Sydney ; Lady Darling, from Melbourne; Moa, from Tahiti.
Plans for the Waikato railway are to be immediately prepared. Nelson, Jan. 13. The s.s. Airedale has arrived. There was no sign of the mail when she left Man ukau. All is quiet in Waikato.
Cobb's coach arrived at New Plymouth late last night. Mr Fox was a passenger. The road is described as a very bad one for coach travelling.
