ADDISON'S.

(from our ows correspondent.) Monday. Now that the Christmas festivities are over, and a few showers having fallen, sufficient to enable miners to commence operations, all the claims are being steadily worked. Let us hope that at the conclusion of the present year their efforts will be crowned with success even greater than attended their exertions during the year just ended.

On Waite's Pakibi, the miners, I regret to inform you, have lost their principal supply of water, by the sale of a very valuable race, known as Jack the Waterman's. The race has been purchased by Moran and party for the sum of £550. It carries twenty-two sluice-heads of water, and owing to the conformation of the ground, one party beingabletouse the water after another, a largo number of men were dependent on it for their supply. The present owners purpose diverting the race to Addison's, to work their claim, and from there it will be discharged into Dirty Mary's Creek, so that none but Moran and party.will be in a position to derive benefit from it. This party completed their tunnel on Christmas Eve, and in a few weeks will be in full work, with, it is anticipated, a very successful future before them.

About a week previous to the holidays, a portion of Dudgeon and party's tunnel, gave way, thereby stopping the drainage of their ground. About 200 feet of driving will repair the damage, which will have been made good in a few clays. Cole's party has ilumed part of the Shamrock Eace, carrying it across Mountain Creek, on to Addison's. This race was brought in from the Totara river by the miners of the

Shamrock Lead, uiiji Is registered for 24 heads of water, but only carries about liaif that quantity. On the Shamrock Lead the Tunnel party have been getting very fair yields for the hist two years. * They are now engaged putting in a portion of their tunnel ut a lower level, to work deeper ground. The party hold a mining lease of seven acres.

M'Lareu and party adjoining, who also hold a seveu acre lease, are now getting the claim in working order. This ground is considered to be as good as any in the district. Clark and party hold a seven acre lease adjoining, but have done nothing as yet to their claim, but will commence operations immediately. Hodgers and party, who'hold the uext claim, have two leases of seven acres and three acres. This ground formerly baffled all the ingenuity or the miner to test thoroughly, owing to the quantity of water and" drift sand, but, as the ground adjoining has been opened up and drained, the present party are likely to succeed in giving it a fair trial, and have already obtained a payable prospect. Another le;.se has been taken up to the south of Eodgers, and the party intend to put in a tunnel about 4000 feet long, in order to work the ground. A. few paities are ground sluicing about two miles from here, in a westerly direction. I shall furnish you with an account of the workings in my next.

An enterprising packer has recently started a team between bore and Westport, and has been instrumental in reducing the cost of freight. He complains, however, of the road being so bad in places that, unless repaired, lie will be obliged to employ his horses on another line of traffic. The repairs necessary are very trifling, and would belimitedjto making good short portions of the track which are in very bad condition. A. matter of £2O would, I believe, suffice to place the road in fair working order.
