In a recent issue we furnished a comparative return of the revenue collected at the Westport Customs for the two quarters ended Doc. 31, 1869 and 1870. For the last quarter the Customs' duties exhibited an increase of £1479 16s 2d—being .£6002 13s Id as againat £4522 16s 11<1 for the corresponding quarter of 1869. Every head under which duties are levied exhibited an increase varying from 10 to 1 50 per cent. Upon tobacco the increase was 80 per cent., upon tea 150 per cent., and sugar 50 per cent.; and the increase, being so marked upon articles of general consumption, would conclusively show that the population of the district must be on the increase. The Customs'revenue for the quarter just ended was distributed as follows:—Spirits, 4417 G-32 gills", £2650 6s 7d : spirits distilled in New Zealand, 36 6-32 gals, £lO 17s 2d; cigars and snuff, 883ilbs, £220 17s 6d; tobacco, 6337 9-16 lbs, .£792 45.; wine, 1806 3-10 gals, £361 5s 6d; alo and beer in bottle, 2410 gals, £l5O 120 6d; tea, 15,7461b5, £393 13a'; Coffee, cocoa, &c, 25841b5, £32 6s; sugar aiid molassrs, 119,3091b5, £497 2b 5d ; sporting; powder,! 12s 6d; shot, £l 10s ; goods by measurement, £605 13s 7d; ditto Jiy w.eight, £154 10s 7d ; ad valorem duties, £33s; ot'ier duties not specified above, kerosene and other oils, malt, &c, £127 18s 9d ; total, X6oo2flßS t<l; '■■" " u
