The brigantine Mary, Captain Agnew, left Slelhourne for Hokitika on the 20th Nov., mid sighted the !Ne\v Zealand coast on Dec. 3rd. Owing to bad weather, her passoge was extended to over eighteen days, having moored alongside the wharf on Thursday last. The schooner Mavis, Capt. Palmer, arrived in harbor yesterday, from Westport, having left that port, on Sunday last; experienced westerly winds for the first two days, when the wind veered rouud to the S.E., blowing strong, with heavy rains, had to run under Mann Island for shelter, and remained there for' 24 hours j'left on Wednesday with light N.VV. winds, which prevailed to arrival in this port.—" Lyttelton Times,'" Dec. 3. From a private letter received at Port Chalmers we regret to learn the death by drowning of Captain Curthoys, at the Fijis. He was well known here as master of the old favorite ship Chile. After leaving her he remained at heme for some time. Came out with his wife and family to Auckland in the Chile last year as passengers ; finding no employment for some months, left his wife and family in Auckland, and took charge of a small craft to the Fijis, and while trading amongst the islands was drowned. His widow and orphans are desirous to return to their friends in England, but the want of means prevents their doing so. Any subscriptions for this object will be thankfully received by Captain Thomson, Harbor Master.—" Otago Daily Times."

The cutter Supply, from Havelock, went ashore at. Pencarrow Heads, Wellington, on the night of Deo. sth, and was likely to become a total wreck.

The " Olago Daily Times" states that somn doubt has been expressed as to whether the steamers of the new San Francisco mail service will be able to enter the graving dock. The dimensions of the clock, as stated by the i&t-e Mr Balfour, are as follows:—Length, 32S feet on the floor line within the gates, and 342 feet at the level of the cope. Breadth, 41 feet on the floor line, G8 feet at the level of the cope, and 50 feet at the gates. Depth, 19 feet. The dimensions of Mr Webb's steamers are variously given by the Post-master-General in the telegram we published the other day, and by Mr Collie in the circular he laid before the Chamber of Commerce. According to the farmer, the length of the Nebraska is 370 feet : according to the latter, it is 2SG feet. Probably the latter is the correct measurement, and if so the dock will he certainly long enough. The breadth of the Nebraska is f-tated by both the Post-master-General and Mr Collie at 41 feet, but to this muet be added the width of the paddleboxes—say : about 20 feet more. The width of the dock at the gates, however, as we have already mentioned, "it> only 50 feet, and would not, therefore, permit, the entrance of the steamer. The samo remarks apply to the other steamers of .the line, excepting the Moses Taylor. JSY ELECTRIC TELVGKAPII. ARRIVALS. Ltttelton.—Dee. 13 —Tararua, from Wellington.
