We extract the following items from Auckland pape-s to Dec. 3 : An Adelaide telegram in a Melbourne paper says that the Assembly have granted an amount not exceeding £2OOO, as a bonus for flax. The Government offer a premium of £lO per ton, grown in the province ; flax when dressed to be worth not less than £3O per ton.

A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Auckland Alliance for the suppression of the liquor traffic, has been held, for the purpose of receiving the result of a canvass of City West, of those for and against the Permissive Bill, with the result of 590 males and

298 females for, and 31 males and 13 females against, while 182 remain neutral—proportion in favour of bill 20 to 1.

Messrs Whitson and Son's brewery, perhaps the largest in New Zealand, was opened yesterday, and a ball took place in the evening. Yesterday being St. Andrew's day, it was celebrated by a banquet. The Bay of Islands coal is becoming more appreciated every day, the steamers Auckland and James Patterson calling on their way to Sydney, taking 200 and 100 tons. An open air meeting, under the auspices of the New Zealand Local Industry League, will be held on Saturday, at two o'clock. The Provincial Government was defeated on the second reading of the Appropriation Act. An amendment to the effect that the Estimates were unsatisfactory, was carried by a majority of 4, the votes being 19 for and 15 against. The Provincial Executive resigned to-day. John M'Donough, a groom in the employ of his Honor the Superintendent, dropped dead of heart disease at Epsom, on Thursday.

The James Patterson took 3485 ounces of gold to Sydney.
