CONVICTION OF THE LATE SUB-TREASURER.

In the case of Erancis Harris, iudictments were found on five charges of forgery and one of embezzlement. The remaining charges were withdrawn.
The prisoner pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzlement and those of forgery, the plea covering an admission of embezzlement and of forgery to hide the embezzlement.
He was sentenced to six years' penal servitude ou each charge. The sentences to be concurrent.
Mary Needham, charged with uttering a forged cheque to a pawnbroker, was found guilty, and sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
There appears a likelihood of rain, which is greatly required.
