SUPREME COURT, NELSON.
THREATENED PATLURE OF CROPS.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH)
(FROM OUR OWJf CORRESPONDENT.) Nelson, Monday.
The Supreme Court opened to-day. In addre.-sing the grand jury, Mr Justice Richmond said that cases of embezzling the public funds were becoming more frequent, but that, considering the large number of officers entrusted with moneys, the statistics would show that the proportion of defaulting officers was not abnormal. The cases, involving criminal charges before the Court, are of a trivial character with the exception of the charge of embezzlement of Provincial funds, and numerous charges of forgery against Francis Harris. That case would come on the following day, and Harris, it is supposed, would plead Guilty. The country is suffering greatly from the long drought, and crops of every description are in much danger.
