The s.s. Waipara arrived from the south on Saturday at noon, and sailed the same tide for Hokitika, calling at Brighton, where she would discharge a small cargo shipped «c Westport. The p.s. The cokouner Three D'riends arrived from Charleston on Sunday, and the cutter Standard on Monday, also from that port.
The s.s. Kennedy left Nelson on Sunday, and arrived at Westport yesterday. She was to sail for Hokitika early this morning, returning to Westport on Thursday.
The s.s. Murray left Nelson on Saturday for Westport, via Motueka, and arrived here yesterday. She was to leave for Grey mouth tiiis morning at two o'clock.
The Magellan Cloud, arrived at Auckland from tho Fijis, reports that H.M.B. Kosarei arrived at Levuka on the 7th ultimo.
From a private letter received Suez mail, wo (Otago Daily Times) learn that' the steamer City of Yedo, belonging to the Messrs lloyt, late of Dunedin, blow up on August Ist, while leaving Yedo for Yokohama. Seven Europeans and 108 Japanese were killed by the explosion, and a number more were so much injured that they were not expected to recover.
It is stated that the plans for the Wellington dock are to be submitted to Colonel Clarke, one of the Admiralty Enginoers, and if his report is favorable, it is believed that the Admiralty will make a grant of £20,000 towards the cost of the work.
On the 21st instant, a seaman fell from the main yard of H.M.S. Blanche in Auckland harbor, and death was instantaneous.
