GREAT FIRE AT LYTTELTON.
TEREIBLE DESTRUCTION OP PEOPERTY. (BY ELECTRIC (FROM OT7R OWN CORRESPONDENT.) liTTTELTON, Oct. 2G. A great fire broke out at Lyttelton on Tuesday morning. Forty-two houses and premises were destroyed, and the largest and most important block of buildings in the town is burnt down, including several warehouses, hotels, and business premises, the Post and Telegraph Offices, the Custom-house, and private dwellings.'
The total loss is estimated at £do,ooo, of which £23,000 is covered by insurance.
