AEEIVAL OF THE ALHAMBRA. (From the Grey River Blvff, Oct. 14. The Alhambra, Captain M'Lean arrived at 6 a.m. She left Melbourne at 7.15 p.m. on the Bth. On the morning of the 10th experienced a strong gale from the S.E. lasting 15 hours. She leaves the Bluff, for Dunedin, to-day at 4 p.m. Passengers: For Otago—Mr H. Eourke, Mr and Mrs Corbett, Messrs Jeffries, Jackson, Ileymanson, V*'eller, Capt. Gay, Mrs M'Kenzie and boy, and four in the steerage ; also 120 tons of cargo. Per Lyttelton: Mr and Mrs Saudstiin, Mr E. Murton, and 10 tons of cargo. For Wellington : Mr Buckley, Mrs Manwell, Mrs Mawlim, and 72 tons of cargo. The Claud Hamilton, is undergoing repairs.

Markets varied slightly during the week. Flour fluctuated, and closed easier, sales only reaching £l3 ; wheat 5s lOd to 6s.

New season's teas are arriving freely here and in the neighboring colonies, and sales are becoming more difficult. Sugars steady lately. Mauritius arrivals report the crops scarcely equal to expectations, and the market there is firm. Candles are easier. Feeding grains again dull at last week's quotations.

The weather is seasonable, showery and sunshine, but a sudden heavy rain yesterday caused temporary floods in the Maryborough and Castleimine districts, doing much damage. The crops, however, are healthy, and expected to give a good average yield. Underwriters have agreed to charge two per cent, extra premium to foreign ports, and one per cent, by the mail steamers.

Supple has been respited to allow an appeal to the Privy Council. .Forder has been committed for trial. Brockman, a miller, at Eichmond, has been sentenced to three years for obtaining £3OO fraudulently from his employer. The Ballarat Eevival Eeef swindlers have been sentenced to two years. Thomas Mulcaby, broker, has been killed by being thrown from a buggy while going to the Caledonia diggings. The Melbourne Meat Preserving Company have declared a dividend of ten per cent. Their butchers have struck. They are receiving six shillings a day, and want seven. The Magistrates throughout the Colony resent the Solicitor General's circular, calling attention that fees should not be taken, it appearing only applicable to one or two and not to the general body. The Duke of Edinburgh closed the Sydney Exhibition. There was a largo attendance. The Oineo has returned from Port Darwin. She reports the settlement progressing, and the telegraph commenced.

The female immigrants per Colonial Empire were readily engaged at £2O to £3O per annum.

A seventy-four pound weight nugget has been found at Berlin.

Shipping.—Arrived: Adeline Burke. Cleared : Ceres, for Greymouth. The Auckland arrived from Sydney yesterday.

Sydney, Oct. 7. The G-overnment narrowly escaped a defeat on Martin's motion, censuring them for dealing with debentures illegally. After a long and acrimonious debate the motion was negatived by a majority of two.

Adelaide, Oct. 7. The Government escaped a defeat by a majority of one. Hobart Town, Oct. 7. . The Government carried the Main Lino of Eailway BUI through the Council by the casting vote of the Chairman.
