Six sailors, being part of the crew of an iron clipper ship Mereurius, which had visited Sydney and San Francisco, and was on her return voyage to England, have reached Liverpool, and told a wondrous tale of suffering, privation, resource, and heroism. Tbe Bhip struck on a coral reef in latitude 3 deg. 52 min. S., long. 33 deg. 20 min. W., and almost instantly went down. Of 22 men on board, only six saved themselves, by swimming about for two hours till the tide fell and tiny were able to gain a footing on the sterile waste. Hero, befriended by a few scattered rjics of former wrecks, they contrived to exist, amid horrors unspeakable, for 51 dreadful flays, when they attracted the attention of a passing vessel, were rescued, and brought to Liverpool.
