The steamers Lyttelton and Murray arrived in port yesterday from Greymouth. On her departure for Nelson the Murray undertook to tow out the brigantine Mary, which was r.eady for sea, with a number of passengers on board ; but the towing warp unfortunately got foul of the buoy in midstream, and so effectually moored the two vessels that it became necessary to slip the warp to relieve them. By the time thoy were free, the tide was too far spent to admit of the Miry being taken over the bar, and she is obliged to wait the arrival of the tug-steamer Lioness, from nokitika, or the Kennedy, from Nelson. The Mary's passengers, though disappointed at the detention, have thus been afforded an opportunity of eDJoying, for other twenty-four hours, the amenities of Westport. H.M.S. Virnjo is to be relieved on the Australian station by the Sphinx. The Willium Davie has arrived from Glasgow at Port Chalmers, the Aboukir at Auckland, and the Monarch at Lyttelton, both from London. A cargo of tea has been brought ti Melbourne by a screw steamer, the Cleator, which made the passage from China in 37 days. The new graving-dock at Port Chalmers is expected to be ready in January. The following are its dimensions :—Depth of water at dock sill, ordinary tides, 19ft Gin ; do do, spring tides, 21ft; do do, neap tides, 17ft 6in; length of dock, 330 ft; width, above, 68ft ; do, below, 41ft j do, where ship's bilge would ' be, 43ft. Tho cutter Zealandia, on board of which an illicit still was found, has been seized by the Customs authorities at Lyttelton, and confiscated. Captain Bcnl, Into of the s.s. Wonga Wonga, has obtained a verdict of .£2OO damages against Mr Hall, the contractor for the Californian mail service, tor wrongful dismissal. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. ARKIVALS.
