ARREST OF MR. F. HARRIS, THE SUE-TREASURER.

GOLD DISCOVERED AT THE KARAMEA. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) (prom: our own correspondent.) Nelson, Friday, 9 a.m. The " Colonist " of this morning reports that Mr Harris was apprehended last night, on the Auditor's warrant for defalcations amounting from £ .200 to £IBOO. He will he brought before the mafist;ates this morning.

2 p.m. Mr Harris was brought before Messrs Eeuwick and Hunter Brown, justices, this morning, charged with stealing £1231, the property of his employer, Mr Oswald Curtis, Superintendent of Nelson.

The information was laid by Mr Jackson, auditor, who, on being ex. amiueel, proved the deficiencyaccording to the books and vouchers, but believed it to be larger. The accused was not defended by counsel, but questioned the witness. Further witnesses have been sent for from the West Coast, and the case was remanded for seven days, the accused being admitted to bail. A good goldtield has been discovered near the Karamea bend. One man got £l5O worth of gold in five weeks. The country is at present snowed up.
