RESIDENT MAGISTRATE COURT.
Fbiday, August 26. (Before J. Giles, Esq., E. M.) CIVIL CASES. Chapman v. Hunter. Claim for £7O for damages. Mr Pitt appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Inspector Shallcrass for the defendant. Mr Pitt asked for an adjournment, in the absence of a necessary witness who had been subpoenaed, but the subpoena had been returned by the bailiff, without service having been effected.. Counsel stated that the witness was a very material one, and that, iu the event of an adjournment, the plaintiff was prepared to proceed to the Grey, and effect service upon the witness. Mr iShallcras objected to any adjournment, as Constable Hunter was about to be removed from the district. At the same time the presence of the witness referred to was desired by the defendant, as being in a position to give material evidence for the defence. Case adjourned for a month until September 26. John Corr v. P. F. Smyth.—Claim for £4l lis. Mr Pitt appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Fisher for the defendant. The sum of £lO 10s 7d had been paid into Court, Mr Fisher applied for an adjournment, in consequence of the defendant being unable to attend.
The case was adjourned until Tues day on payment of costs.
