Melbourne, Aug. 13. The concluding Town Hall festivities were to take place on the 13th, in a grand concert, during which five hundred performers will give the " Stabat Mater" and other selections. An extensively planned forgery of five-pound notes of the Bank of New South Wales, Albury branch, has been discovered at Benalla. Two men named Smith and Dante have been arrested, and the printing plant seized. Smith had passed six notes. Dante had been released from Pentridge, after serving 12 years for forgery. Hugh Glass is dangerously ill. Great floods are reported from Wentworth, and the town is threatened. Frederick Cope has been committed for trial for embezzling Government money. Frederick Brown, who has pleaded guilty of forgery at Geelong, had been one of Burnett's converts. Phillip Barry, a reporter, aged forty, well known by the press generally, has committed suicide. A fall of snow has taken place at Ballarat and Wood's Point. The weather is cold. The weather, with occasional sunshine, has generally continued wet, during the week, and fears are entertained for the crops. Flour and wheat continue firm in consequence, but are not materially advanced. Flour is selling from £l2 5s to £l2 15s; wheat, 5s 7d to 6s. Sugars are not so firm, owing to the Mauritius advices reporting large exports thence. Adklaide, Aug. 13. Mr Bagot, the Chief Secretary, has died suddenly. His funeral was largely attended. Forest, the explorer, has arrived from Perth, overland, having passed through much good grass country, but with no permanent water, except one spot, where Eyre had found it. Tasmania, Aug. 13. The military embarked on the 17th. The Governor has made an official inspection, and addressed them. He hoped the departure of the red coats would not loosen the ties to the mother countrj.
