SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.

WESTPORT. HIGH WATER. This Day ... 10.2 a.m.. 10.24 p.m. To-morrow 10.46 p.m., 11.7 p.m. DEPAETITBES. August 10 —Kennedy, s.s., Whitwell, for Hokitikn. Murray, s.s., Palmer, for Greymouth. The steamers Murray and Kennedy have been detained in the port weatherbound, awaiting an opportunity to proceed south. They sailed yesterday evening. The p.s. LyHelton is telegraphed as having left Hokitika for Westport early on the 7th. No tidings have been received of her as yet, but she is supposed to have proceeded direct to Wanganui. The steamer Murray is announced to leave Westport for Nelson on Saturday next. The weather since Monday has been exceedingly inclement. Heavy squalls of wind, together with hail and rain, have swept along the Coast, cheeking communication by sea and rendering out-door occupation altogether impracticable. A very heavy sea is also breaking on the bar and along the beaches, but has not been attended with that injury to property recently experienced. The tides will be at their full this evening, and though a very heavy sea is running, there would not appear any immediate ground for apprehension that properties contiguous to ■will be injured. During the past few days men have been employed, under the direction of the Harbor Master ,in the removal of snags from the bank of the river in the vicinity of Martin's garden on the Island. These snags have a tendency to direct the stream against its northern bank, and their removal will eifect the gradual cutting away of the shingle point opposite <Cobden street. The work is likely to occupy a considerable length of time.

BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.

ARRIVALS. Geeysioutii.—Aug. 10 —Gothenburg, from Nelson. DEPARTURES. Gbeymouth.—Aug. 10—Gothenburg, for Hokitiki.
