Per John Penn, short landed at Westport —ls bags oysters, 14 cases oranges, 34 head cattle, 300 sheep, 60 pigs, Dick and Seaton ; 8 kegs butter, Walters ; 5 cwt bacon, 20 kegs butter, order ; 8 eases wine, Cooke ; 5 horses, Dick asd Seaton. The s.s. John Penn left Auckland for Wanganui and the West Coast on Tuesday last, arrived at Westport on Sunday, and sailed at midnight for southern ports. The John Penn may be expected to arrive from the south on Wednesday, when she will leave for Nelson, Wanganui, and Manukau. The steamer Murray reached Nelson from the West Coast on Friday last, made quick despatch, leaving again for the Coast on Saturday morning. On her way down she called at Motueka, and reached the Buller on Monday morning. Sho is notified to sail from this port for Nelson on Wednesday afternoon, the 3rd inst.
The steamer Charles Edward having completed her repairs, left Nelson on Sunday, and arrived at Westport yesterday morning. Preparatory to receiving cargo, she took a short trip down the Bay at Nelson on Friday, when her machinery was found to be in first-class order, and she made an average speed of ten and a half knots an hour. The cutter Satellite, M'Donald, master, left Wanganui on Thursday, arriving at Westport on Sunday, with a cargo consisting chiefly ol potatoes, consigned to Messrs Freeth and Greig. She will be despatched to West Wanganui at an early date for a cargo of coal for Westport. The s.s. Storm Bird is expected to arrive in Westport on Sunday next. The steamer Alhambra is announced as leaving Melbourne for the Fiji Islands on the 20th of this month. The command of the largo steamship" Wonga Wonga, now running from Sydney to Honolulu, has been given to Captain John Steuart, of Melbourne. Capt. Steuart is well known as having long held command of the s.s. Aldinga, and there is no doubt that ho will be equally popular in his new charge. Considerable anxiety prevailed in Melbourne and Sydney respecting the Harleaeh Castle, an iron clipper ship of 1112 tons, whic'i left Melbourne for Newcastle, in ballast, on the 26th of June, and hud not been heard of up to the 21st of July. The Dunkeld, a barque of 300 tons, laden ■with coal, left Newcastle on the 6th of June, and was last seen on the 27th, about forty miles to the eastward of Wilson's Promontory, since when nothing has been heard of her.
