Friday, July 29. (Before C. Broad Esq., E.M. aud B. C. Eeid, Esq., J. P.) LUNACY. Robert Brown was brought forward as being of unsound mind. Dr Thorpe statec 1 that he had examined the prisoner and considered he was suffering from mental derangement and was likely to become dangerous to himself or others. This opinion was corroborated by the written testimony of Dr Acheson, of Hokitika. Mary Sullivan was charged with obstructing and assaulting Warder Carruthers when on duty with the gaol prisoners, on the 2Sth inst. J. A. Maguire, Gaoler, and Warder Oarruthers proved that the prisoner attempted to interfere with the hardlabor prisoners, by using bad language and ordering them to cut wood and place it on her section ; that she obstructed and attempted to assault the Warder when on duty. She was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labor. DRUNK AND INCAPABLE. Martha Horton was fined ten shillings, with the alternative of 24 hours imprisonment. THREATENING LANGUAGE. Two cases, on the charge sheet were withdrawn by Patrick Farley, who had laid the informations.
