The steamship Kennedy left Nelson on Thursday, and arrived at Westport shortly before midnight on Friday, her passage having been delayed by head winds. Her departure for southern ports has been protracted by the very severe weather experienced sinco her arrival. She sailed for Greymouth yesterday at midnight. Tho schooner Sarah and Mary will probably sail for Melbourne to-day in tow of the steamer Murray.

The schooner Eose of Eden, from Lyttclton, and Satellite, from Wanganui, both laden -with produce, put in an appearance yesterday in the roadstead, and crossed the bar shortly after the Constant.

The s.s. Waliubi left Wanganui for Westport on Friday last, arriving here on Sunday. She sailed for Greymouth last night in company with the Kennedy, and will probably call* at Westport en route for Wanganui tomorrow.

We are glad to learn that Mr Allison, formerly chief officer of the s.s. Wallabi has been placed in command of the p.s. St. Kilda. The latter boat lias been recently purchased by a "Wanganui resident, and is destined to be placed in the Wanganui and West Coast trade.

The s.s. Tararua arrived at. Hokitika from Melbourne on Sunday morning. The s.s. Murray loft Greymouth for Westport yesterday at 2.45 p.m., and arrived here early this morning. She will sail during the afternoon for Nelson.

The ketch Constant left Westport for Charleston about 12 a.m. on Friday last. Experienced light north-westerly weather until reaching the heads, and anchored about nine o'clock in the evening. Heavy northcast, swell setting in at fi a.m. on Saturday, tripped anchor, and finding no possibility of entering the heads, stood out to sen, making a north-westerly courso until Sunday morning. Wind dropped off and stood in for the land, and made Charleston the same evening, but seeing no chance of entering in consequence of very heavy surf, stood again for the ■westward. Early yesterday morning wind chopped round to south-west, and ran for Westport with only jib set. About 7.30 a.m., while setting mainsail, lost a man overboard. The master furnishes the following particulars of the accident. It appears that he went to the halyards for the purpose of hoisting the sail, and instructed the deceased to get it clear of the galley, and keep the weather side. In place of doing so he kept to leeward, and the sudden jerk of the boom pitched him overboard. The helm was immediately put down, and the vessel hove to, but it was impossible to afford him any succour. The unfortunate man was seen buffeting the waves for five or six minutes, and when last visible was swimming on bis back. The accident occurred about twenty miles south-west of the Steeples. Deceased had but recently joined the vessel, having received his discharge from the Northern Light while in Westport on her last trip from Melbourne. According to the discharge the name of the deceased is Thomas Outline, and we are informed that he was a native of Barnstaple, Devon, and ogod about 20 years.
