[ UTHORITY is hereby granted for twelve months from the Ist May, 1870, under Section XIII. of the " Goldfields Act, 1866," to James Wilson Humphrey, for the Westport flax Company, to clear for purposes of navigation, the Waratea River, in the district of Buller, for a distance of five miles more or less, from its mouth, upon the following conditions:— 1. The river to be cleared of snags and logs, and made passable for boats, for the distance above specified. 2. Tolls to be charged on all goods conveyed in boats by other parties, at the rate of 2s 6d per ton. 3. This license not to be transferred without the authority of the Warden of the district, who is also empowered, if any matter of complaint should arise, to suspend the license, until the same is removed; and if the matter of complaint be not removed within a reasonable time, the Superintendent shall have power to cancel this protection.
