This morning a prisoner named August Schroder, a seaman of the Melita, undergoing a sentence of three months for assaulting the police, was shot dead while engaged with the hardlabor gang, by the overseer, named M'Carthy, whose rifle accidentally went off. The bullet passed through SchroderVheart. An inquest is being held. The new Steam Company here is formiug satisfactorily.
