EVENTIDE.

The soft sweet hush of eventide Is falling on the earth; When care-worn, weary minds relax, And share the children's mirth. Tis sweet to linger by the sea, Or wander through the fields; The hot brow fann'd by the cooling breath Of the perfume laden'd breeze. The sweet flowers droop their glittering Beneath the gem-like dew; [leaves Which gently falls on hill and vale, Refreshing earth anew. The solemn peace of eventide Calms many a troubled heart; Bringing, in fancy, loved ones back, Whom oceans sadly part. And raising grateful thoughts to Him, Who made all things so fair; We humbly thank him for his love, And raise our hearts in prayer, For who can say there is no God, In eventide's sweet hour; When heaven and earth combine to prove His majesty and power.
