The steamer Murray arrived in the Buller early yesterday morning, after a passage which was protracted by one of the heaviest w""£? i —'* t ''""" ' l '**'* ' t " J,uo " tame. She left Nelson at noon onThursday, and had made nearly two-thirds of the passage when the gale became so heavy that, in her trim, it was a risk to proceed, with any regard to deck cargo or live stock, and she put back to the shelter of the Cape, where she remained until Thursday morning. She has brought the Westport and Charleston portions of the English mail, which was transhipped at Wellington from the Omeo to the steamer Storm Bird. Mr and Mrs Sewell, Judge Chapman and Mrs Chapman, are passengers by the Somersetshire, which left Plymouth for Melbourne ■on the 26th January. Mr and Mrs Dodson, and the Misses Dodson, of Nelson, are also passengers by the same vessel. The owners of the Circular Saw Line of steamers purpose giving another cheap trip from Wellington to Picton and Nelson during the Easter holidays. The schooner Falcon has been stranded at Opunakc, near Tarauaki. She has since been condemned, and ordered to be sold. Mr Eyan, engineer of the s.s. Wanganui, now at Dunedin, while engaged in the engineroom, was struck in the eye by a chip of steol. The eye has been injured very sevcrelv.
