MR. KYNNERSLEY AT CHARLESTON
Mr Kynnersloy was entertained at Charleston on Monday, as he was at Westport on Saturday. We learn from the Herald that, on the occasion, about forty gentlemen assembled in the Long Room of the Melbourne Hotel. Beyond a banner hung under the centre arch, on which was written "Charleston welcomes Kynnersley," the room was not decorated, but tho table was perfection. The bill of fare suggested forty-three different dishes, and included every obtainable delicacy. The wines were excellent, and praise is due to Host Gilmer for the manner in which he discharged his duties. Mr Hugh Jones, of the Bank of New South Wales, occupied tho chair, and Mr Fenton, of the Olub Hotel, tho vicechair. After the loyal and patriotic toasts, tho Chairman proposed "The health and happiness of the guest of the evening," to which Mr Kynnersloy responded. Mr Taylor then proposed " Prosperity to the Commercial and Mining Interests of tho locality." Mr Dwan responded on behalf of the commercial interests, and Mr Thompson on behalf of the miners. Mr Thompson proposed also tho health of Mr Broad, R.M., who was present; Mr Neale proposed " Tho Brighton Visitors," for whom Mr Patterson replied; and "The Ladies" and "The Press" were proposed respectively by Mr Russell and Mr Pell, Mr Jackson responding on behalf of the fair sex. The programme Deing exhausted, the Chairman invited the gi*<jsts to contribute to the pleasures of the evening as they were best prepared. After a scries of songs, duets, and speeches by Messrs Bread, Greenwood, Behan, Perrett, Jackson, Walker, and others, the company united in singing the appropriate song " Auld Lang Sync," and separated highly gratified, shortly after midnight.
