The schooner Mary Van Every, under command of Captain Deucharez, arrived in the Buller yesterday morning after a very rapid passage from Duuedin. She left Otago Heads at 7 o'clock on Sunday evening, and at 10 p.m. on Monday she passed Banks Peninsula with a strong S.E. breeze. At tho same hour on Tuesday she passed Cape Campbell, and at 3 p.m. on Wednesday she rounded Cape Farewell, witli a strong gale from S.E. Thence she had light N.E. winds, and came to anchor olf the Buller bar at 10 p.m. on Thursday, entering the river next morning in tow of the steamer Murray. Her agents are Messrs Powell and Co. The schooner Jane Elkin, after active exertions on the part of the master and the Harbor Department, was got off the South Spit at high water on Thuroday evening. She is understood to have received no serious damage. The coal of which her cargo consisted had all to the thrown overboard, save ten tons, which have been disposed of; and the vessel is now in the lagoon, where she will undergo an overhaul. Capt. Leslie desires, through our columns, to express his thanks to Captain Leech, the Harbor Master, for tho valuable assistance he rendered, by personal exertions and otherwise, in the work of getting the vessel off tho beach. _ The s.s. Waipara paid one of her flying visit* to the Buller yesterday morning, returning south after discharging the few packages composing her cargo for this place. Tho s.s Murray, which arrived during the same tide, proceeded to Nelson. Mr A. Reid has been appointed harbor pilot at the port of Lyttclton, in the place of Captain Sproul, who has resigned. Dtjnedin.—The Times of the 26th ult. reports: — Wheat is, in consequence of the reduced value of flour, in less demand, except at lower values. Flour is still further depressed in value, for which it is difficult to assign any reason other than the weakness of holders. Butter is declining in value, with little or no demand. Cheese continues saleable, but at lower rates. Roll bacon is scarce, and in active demand. Flour, £l4 per ton ; oatmeal, £22 do; pearl barley, £2B do ; wheat, 5a 6d per bushel: oats, 4s do ; barley, 5s 6d do; maize, os 6d do ; bran, £7 per ton.
