The steamer Tvennedy arrived yesterday morning from Nelson. On her return trip from the south it is intended to despatch her to_Wanganui and Manukau, her departure being appointed for Saturday. She brought hither the mail received from Auckland by the Charles Edward, and that vessel is not expected to visit the Coast for a'number of days, as she has been placed upon the cradle at Nelson for an overhaul. From Greymouth the Lytteltoa (the existence of which " down south " had almost been forgotten) also arrived yesterday from Greymouth, and at mid-day •sailed for the north. The steamer Murray arrived yesterday evening, and, shortly after arrival, found ■work to do in attempting to tow off the schooner Jane Elkiu, which, in endeavoring to enter the river, got aground on the South Spit. Ilcr efforts were unfortunately futile, and the Jane Erkin romains aground. The latter is understood to be from Greymouth with coals. A steamer named the Eagle, commanded by Captain Mailler, formerly of the Comerang, has arrived at Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is to be a regular trader from Sydney to Nelson, and thence to the other ports. The captain of the Mary Smith, which has arrived at Sydney, contradicts the report of the Morea massacre at the Line Islands. The ship Victoria Tower, which was wrecked in Beam Bay, has entirely broken up. The American war steamer Jp-meston has •arrived at ftewa, Fiji.
