ADDISON'S FLAT.
(from otjr own correspondent.) I am glad to be able to report that there is a great amount of active work going on with the miners of Addison's Flat, although during the past week there has been a great scarcity of water, which is much felt, as nearly all the claims on the Flat have in use the improved plan of washing with ripples and tables from 8 to 10 feet wide, and this plan of washing requires more water, but then it also saves labor and saves the gold better. Many who have left this district will be astonished to hear that the lead is taken up from Dirty Mary's to Mountain Creek and nearly all the claims are paying good wages." There are two drainage tunnels which drain most of the claims and enable the miners to have constant work. I may mention a few of the claims. Dudgeon and party, who have an extended claim, have until lately been driving to get drainage into the main tunnel, have now got to work in their ground, and expect it to pay from £8 to £10; and this party have a long spell of work. Phillips and party have also drainage to the main tunnel and are making good wages. Dillon and party have lately been rigging another part of their claim, and are now in full work and making good wages. Jones and party have also been rigging up anew lately, and have been paying from £6 to £8 a week. O'Brien and party are doing very well, and Dagg and party have been making a fresh start, having taken more shareholders into the claim and make sure of a rise before Christmas. Macknight and party, and Morris Counel and party, who have claims on the back lead, having got drainage to the main tunnel, are also making good wages. Morgan's tunnel party are doing very well. This is the only clnim about hero which works out of the tunnel, and uses a horse underground for dragging the truck. The two claims which arc working on the cement lead are much troubled with water, but have been pretty constant at work lately. They use a water-wheel working a wooden pump and elevators. Two other parties, with the names of the Ein and Tare and tho Who'd Have Thought It, also use water-wheels working elevators, buc have a good deal of water to contend with. Still they are said to be making about £6 a week. Cole and party's Bise and Shine Gold Miaing
Company have a claim of seven acres. This party have had a heavy piece of work bringing up a tail-race over 3000 feet long. They are adopting the plan of ground sluicing, and have a prospect of several years work, aud are making sure of £8 to £lO a week. Thomas's party, who worked out on the Shamrock Lead, have taken up a claim on the north end of the Flat, and are about to start a tunnel; they are said to have pretty good prospects. There happened a narrow escape on Saturday to one of the men in the Shamrock Company, Patrick Maeinroe. He fell down the shaft, which is 70 feet deep, and has been lucky enough to escape with a very slight injury. I noticed a letter in Saturday's paper from George Boss. lam sure that any of us who are acquainted with him and his high talents as a " bush lawyer," can hardly think that he made a mistake in reading my report of the Shamrock Lead, but, rather, that he wished to figure as a shareholder in the Thistle Gold Mining Company.
