The brigantine Maid of Erin, from Melbourne, was off this port on Friday, but, did come to anchor until Saturday, and on Simday she was towed in by the steamer Waipara, which happened to be then ill port. The Maid of Erin left Port Philip Heads on Oct, 15, at 10.30 a.m., with N.E. winds, and experieneed thick rainy weather and a very heavy head sea nud heavy thunder and lightning, with the wind at east. She then had dense fog and light airs, baffling from K.S.E. to E.N.E., and calms in the Straits, which she cleared on the 20lh alt., having airs from N.N.E. and calms and variable weather up to the iioth ult., when she had heavy rain and thunder and lightning and a fresh breeze from E.b.E , which freshened up into a heavy gale with tremendous squalls and a terrific sea running. This obliged Iter to heave to lor 2i hours ; barometer down to 29.30. On Tuesday, the 2fith ult, the wind worked round to south, still blowing very heavily. At 2 p.m. kept off on her course, and it gradually moderated and backed into west and from that to north, since which time she had a fresh breeze from north with tliick foggy weather. She made the land at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday last, but, coming on to blow, stood oil', and sighted the Steeples again -distance 2 miles—on Friday at 7 a.m., when she stood off and on till the weather moderated, and came to an anchor on Saturday at 10.30 a.m. The Maid of Erin is commanded by Captain Agnew, who has already visited this port, and has for several yeixvs sailed Spence Brothers' vessels.
