For Westport: 3 cases, Simon ; 8 do Stitt Bros. We learn by telegraph that the raising of the Taranaki is at last an accomplished fact. The leak has been partially stopped, but it is expected that several cracks will be found in her plates. There are three feet of black slimy mud in her which prevents a thorough examination being made. Writing of the expected high tide, the Dunodin correspondent of the Grey Ricer Argus says;—" Whether new moon occurring at the time of perihelion will produce such a wave as is predicted I will not say; but about twenty years ago the same phenomenon occurred (predicted, too), but no extraordinary rise of the tide took place. However, two days later, a very high tide did come, and did a great deal of damage in many ports on the east coast of Great Britain."
