PROSPECTING THE WAIMONGAROA TERRACES.
The enterprise of prospecting the terraces north of the Waimongaroa, advocated and initiated by Mr Richard Nicholl, and supported by the ready subscriptions of the inhabitants, was the object of a meeting held at the Empire Hotel on Tuesday evening The meeting w r as one of subscribers to the fund for the prospecting party, and the precise purpose of their assembly was to appoint a committee to manage the fund and to act as the medium between the subscribers and the working party. The subscribers present were Messrs Field, Simpson, Suisted, Draghicavich, O'Conor, Hughes* Carne, Emanuel, Nicholls, Carr, Hamilton, Dupuis, Rowland, and others. Mr Field was in the chair, and Mr O'Conor acted as Secretary pro tern. It was proposed by Mr O'Conor, and seconded by Mr Emanuel " That a committee of eight, should be appointed to act as a Managing Committee, and to make future collections and disbursements." This motion was agreed to, and the following gentlemen were nominated and appointed as committee-men—Messrs Carr, Whyte, Powell, Rowland, Field, Simpson, and O'Conor. Mr Whyte was appointed Treasurer and Mr Carr Secretary. A committee - meeting was subsequently held, at which some preliminary arrangements were made, and yesterday several members of the committee undertook the work of collecting the subscriptions. Mr Richard Nicholl expects to encounter no serious delay in making up his party, and will probably be able to report in a week as to the position of the ground into which it is their intention to drive the prospecting tunnel, the construction of which it is their intention to undertake.
