COMMERCIAL
Westpobt Timis Office, Friday Evening. Business during the weekhasnot shown much animation, but there has beeu a steady trade with the up-country diggings. The arrival of the Dagmar from Uunedin, and the Charlotte from Kuiapoi, both loaded with produce, has still further over-stocked the market with potatoes. Both cargoes were offered at auction by Mr John Munro on Tuesday. Ex Charlotte, potatoes fetched £3 10s; oats 4s Gd; carrots (damaged), £1 ; Colonial bacon, 6d ; butter, Is ; fowls from 5s Cd to 6s per pair. The cargo ex Dagmar was withdrawn, the bids not coming up to importer's limit. Breadstuffs are film at last quotations, but little trade doing. Oats are firm. The lot ex Charlotte, we believe, were purchased on speculation and stored for a higher price. Advices regarding candles report an advance, and prices are now firm at last quotations. In oilmen's store* generally there is a steady trade doing, but little alteration to note in prices. Market well supplied.
