MINING INCIDENTS.

EEWABDS FOE DISCOVEBY. The Provincial Government of Auckland have offered rewards of £IOOO for the discovery of gold in the Waitakerei, Maraitai, and other districts in the north of that province. GOLD DEEDGESTG. Gold dredging, which has been so successful in the Molyneux,is attracting much attention at the Shotover, and 5 as far as it is possible to judge, the field is a good one. The last escort to Dunedin from the gold fields brought down 7250 ounces. WAEDEJfSHIP AT TILE THAMES. According to the Advertiser it is probable that Mr Vincent Pyke will be appointed to one of the Wardenships at the Thames rendered vacant by the resignation of Messrs Broad and Keddell. THE TIITABTJ DIGGINGS. An extra of the Timaru Herald says —We learn that two gentleman who have paid a visit to the reported goldfields returned to Timaru late last night, and report very unfavourably of the prospect. The country is described as fearfully rough, with nothing but a small river bed to work in, where the " colour " only can be obtained. The river was tried where Martin and party are camped, but no prospect worth looking at was obtained. THE SOTTTUERK DISTRICTS. The news from the southern diggings of tins Coast, says the Hokitika Star, is still satisfactory, inasmuch as none of the parties seem at all disposed to leave for the more settled districts. The amount of gold brought up by the steamer is no real indication of what the men are doing, as it is believed that they parted with no more of the precious metal than was necessary to procure a supply of provisions. The sample brought up is a rough one, much waterworn, and evidently taken from a terrace, or bank of a stream. We understand that most of the miners feel sanguine that a payable gold field will yet be found in the far south, and that before the summer is over.
