MINING INCIDENTS.

NEW IIETHOD OP SATIXO GOLO. The name of a Mr Hunt Ins recently been prominently before the public in Australia, in connection with recent diamond discoveries. Mr Hunt is the inventor of new patent machines for saving gold and precious stones. The invention cost him some thirty years to perfect, and it had recently a very successful trial in Victoria. Mr Hunt placed two rubies, two sapphires, and a topaz in the refuse in the feeder, and these were regained after passing through the machines. A few particles of gold were thrown in and recovered. Mr Hunt gained much experience on the

Continent, where he was for years manager of some silver and lead mines. Whilst thus engaged, a friend sent him some stuff from Tasmania, from which he procured, by means of hi* patent, some fifteen gems, the greater proportion being sapphires, and it was this which induced him to visit Australia. He is now receiving orders? from all parts of the colony for the machines. If there are gems in Tasmania and Australia, the probability is that they will be equally found in New Zealand, and the machine in question is surely worth the consideration of the people of this colony.
