Hitherto considerable inconvenience has been experienced by intending passengers froiu this district in consequence of the luck of information as to dates which Messrs Girdwood. and Co. now supply. The steamer Charles Edward arrived from Nelson at mid-day yesterday, and, after a stay of two hours, sailed for Greymouth. The steamer Murray sailed from Nelson some hours before, but called at Motueka, to take on board a quantity of produce. The Charles Edward will probably sail hence for Nelson on Friday. The s.s. Wallabi, on her way from Wanganui, was passed by the Charles Edward off Cape Farewell Spifc on Tuesday night, and arrived off Westport last evening. Tho s.s. Waipara, instead of coming on to Westport, came no further than Brighton, where she discharged a considerable cargo, returning to Greymouth on her way to Hokitika and Okarito. The Australian Steam Navigation Company intend to despatch a steamer direct to Auckland from Sydney regularly once a fortnight. The s.s." Auckland, the first boat of tho new line, was to leave Sydney on the 14th August. The barques Ballarat and John Banfield have arrived at Auckland from London.
