The schooner Kaiuina left Otago Heads on Monday, the 9th instant, and arrived in this port on Sunday. She reports a fair passage, but not much wind. A vessel supposed to be the Mary Van Every, from Duuedin, was in the roadstead yesterday. The s.s. Wangauni left Wanganui on Friday afternoon, at two o'clock, and airived off the Bailer bar at two p.m. on Saturday. She brought a cargo of livestock in tine condition consigned to Messrs Dick and Seaton; The steam-tug Lioness was gut off the beach at Hokitika on Thursday morning last. The Harbor Steam Company in Duuedin have, through one of their shareholders, Mr John Darling, effected the purchase of the new s.s. Maori in Melbourne. The Maori is intended to replace the paddle-boat Wallace (sistership to the Bruce), which haa been engaged in the Oanmrii and Duuedin trade. The Wallace will bo withdrawn from that employment after her arrival, and it is intended she shall succeed the Bruce on the West Coast, under the management of Mr (ifimmJAf wr-a •mW'eftL-Pgm'itran'o: origin'.? steamboat agent. Her arrival on the coast will be looked for with great interest, as at the present time our coastal steamboat service is not what is required.— Daily Xcws. Captain Doilc reports that he visited the wreck of the Tavanaki, the raising of which is now being attempted by the Wreck Recovery Company. Some of the pontoons have been fixed, and the others will be by Tuesday next, when the whole will be ready for raisin". The divers are doing their work well, and success is considered certain. Some bottles of spirits and preserves have been removed from the steward's pantry, and were found to be in good condition.
