SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.
WESTPOET. HIGH WATER. This Dav ... 1.32 a.m., 1.57 p.m. To-morrow 2.25 a.m., 2.50 p.m. ABBIYALS. August 11—Murray, s.s., M'GiUivray; put back. DEPABTX T BES. August 11—Murray, s.s., for Greyinoufh. The s.s. Murray did a favor to tho shipping reporter yesterday by making a departure aud an arrival. She went to sea in the forenoon, bound for Greymouth, but the ground swell was so heavy, and the prospect of tcetthig into the Grey so slight, that she very soon put back, and now waits a favorable change in the weather. The V, r . C. Tunes says: —We understand that an enterprising merchant of Hokitika has made an oiler for a favorite steamer, and that on her purchase she will regularly be employed in the coastal trade, making Hokilika her hcad-quartere. The brig Ann and Maria, bound from Newcastle to Melbourne, foundered on the moi ning of the sth July, ten miles south of Green Cape. The crew were saved. On a recent date, a seamau named Gittcvs fell overboard from the barque Novelty, on her upward passage from Sydney. Every effort was made to save the poor fellow, but in vain. A company has been formed amongst the lea ling citizens of Auckland interested in the Thames trade, with the view of purchasing a fast steamer. Tho capital of tho company consists of £2J,000 in shares of £OOOO. There were twenty-five coasting craft of various dimensions lying in the roadstead at Grahamstown on Saturday last. This gives a good indication of tho oxleusivo trade now being carried on at the Thames. The A.S.N. Company, we learn, intend starting a line of steamers between Australia and New Zealand. The head-quarters of this company is Sydney, which has lately been comparatively out of direct communication with nearly all the ports of the South Island. We hear that tho compmy propose to run from Sydney, via Nelson, and go right round to Dunedin, and thence to Melbourne ; then back ftom Melbourne to the Bluff, lound the ports to West Coast, and on to Sydney. It. is said that the steamer liangatira was reported as being likely to arrive from Sydney, off our coast, in the course of a week. Such was the report brought by the Charles Eilward.— Nelson Colonist.
