Coming down the coast, after passing Capo Farewell, she had thick weather and a very heavy sea, and on the bar there was a tremendous surf for the Buller, but. Captain Seott preferred getting through it to remaining outside for the night, and the steamer got in safely some time before high water. The weather was so broken, and the sea so heavy, that neither the Charles Edward nor the \Vallabi ventured out on Thursday, but yesterday morning they put to sea, getting easily over a rather heavy bar. The Wallabi proceeded to Wanganui, and it is understood that she is to make an intermediate trip to Onohunga. We understand that the s.s. "Wanganui has been chartered by Messrs Dick and Seaton to proceed for one trip from Wanganui to Onehunga, where sheep stock is at present commanding rather high prices. The steamer Kennedy is to be despatched from Nelson to Sydney as soon as she can be made ready for the voyage. At Sydney she will undergo a thorough overhaul, similar to that given to the Charles Edward—an overhaul which, it is said, has cost her owners £2500. Steamboat proprietorship is evidently not an exclusively profitable speculation. Between loss of time, expenses of launching, the trip to Sydney, and her overhaul, the Kennedy will cost something considerable before she can resume the West Coast trade. On July 22nd there were no less than sixtyeight foreign-going vessels at Newcastle, New South Wales, waiting for cargoes of coals.
