MINING INCIDENTS.

The Crristchurch Press of the 14th «iys:—" It was reported in town yestenlay that Mr Pemberton, surveyor, hi discovered quartz on a creek running into the Waiapara, on Mr Moore's run." Owing to the inclemency of the weather, and heavy falls of snow, a party who have, for the past seven or eight weeks, been out on the Ruahtne Range in the neighborhood of Wanganui, have returned. They report the country as extremely broken and covered with forests of Black Birch of immense size. They intend, however, in a few months returning to renew the search. As yet there is no reason for believing a payable goldfield near Wellington to be in existence, but the crowrls of diggers wdio are prospecting the Karori creek have found hopeful indications of gold being in the locality; 5s a day, it is said, may even now be made. It is thought probable that payable quartz reefs may be found in association with the barren illuvium of the place. Within two days lately, the AusMian Diamond-mining Company obtained twenty-three diamonds, and on Monday last thirteen, making in all thirty-sir for three days' work. "It would appear," says the Gippshnd Times, " that there are still auriferous localities remaining to be discovered in Gipps Land, which have . hitherto escaped the notice of goldI se&ers. "We have the best authority «*r stating that payable gold has been discovered on the Darge-flat, and we relieve the official intimation of sush discovery will shortly be made public."
