Her hull is now broken in halves. Her gear, fittings, and part of her engines have been saved. The wreck has not yet hecn sold. Nelson, Friday. The Supreme Court commenced its sittings on Thursday, July 1. In consequence of the absence of witnesses, the Charleston case of alleged perjury was adjourned until to-day. The civil cases commenced on Wednesday. Ihe Westport case of Tasker and others v. Jaryis and others has been decided by a special jury. The verdict was in favor of Tasker. The steamship Tararua, Captain Hagley, commander, arrived outside the Bluff at 5 o'clock this morning, and entered at 7.20 a.m., making the passage in four days thirteen liours. She left on the 28th, and brings two days' later news. June 28. It is rumored that his Honor Mr Justice Williams intends to resign, as he is going home. It is stated that Mr Higginbotham will succeed him. It is also rumored that Mr Punne receives a County Court judgeship. Arguments have been heard on a motion to rescind the Judges' order liberating Hugh Glass. The Swiftsure and Ethiopian, from London, have arrived. Hugo Levinger has been again arrested upon a second charge—that oi murdering an old Polynesian nativeBail has been refused. An association has been established by contractors and builders for mutual protection. A son of the Hon. J. G-. Francis has been killed while playing with his brother. "Weigart has been further remanded. The Tasmanian cable is out of order.
Commercial. Breadstuff's are firmer ; flour, £l3 15s; wheat, Gs 2d to Gs 3d ; New Zealand oats, large sale at 4s 2d; maize, 4s 3d; barley, 4s 9d ; teas, neglected; sugars, slightly declined. Sydney, June 28. A new facetious paper is to be established next month under the title of Lector. The conviction against Grreville, manager of the.Bank at Forbes, has been sustained after arguments were heard. The case against Bazzet has been dismissed, the evidence being insulli cient to prove slave dealing. The Herald has been fined £10; for publishing an article on the Poly nesian slave trade. Dr Steele, the writer of letters upon the same subject, has also been fined. Cooper has been committed for trial upon a charge of being concerned in the murder of Starkie at Murrinburn. Priehettee, the supercargo of the Daphne, has been arrested on the charge of slave dealing. Fresh disclosures have been made by Wilkie of embezzlement by Queensland Government officials. Adelaide, June 29. The formation of a lady's college has been proposed. Lady Ferguson strongly supports the movement. New gold-mining regulations have been issued. The Volunteer movement has revived, and numbers are joining the corps. The Gulnare was boarded by Customs officers previous to her sailing for the North. A quantity of spirits was seized.
