The steamer Lyttelton made a more speedy trip to and between the southern ports than, considering the state of the bars and her usual l'atc of speed, could have been expected. She arrived on Thursday morning, and sailed for Nelson at mid-day. The steamer Wanganui arrived on Thursday morning, and, after landing a large cargo of stock on tho South Spit, sailed yesterday morning. The steamer TSiuoc and her new commander, Capt. Hepburn, continues to maintain their reputation for smartness. The Bruce left Wcstport at nine o'clock on Tuesday morning, and, to the surprise of many, had returned to West-port by nine o'clock on Thursday evening, bringing with her a full cargo shipped during her short detention ;;t Nelson. She is expected to return from the south so as to be able to sail for Nelson again on Tuesday next. The only vessel loading for Nelson, when the mail left, was tho barque Abdul Medjid. The Canterbury papers announce the total wreck of the schooner Dove, the property of Mr John Grubb, of Lyttelton. Tho crew were saved, but her cargo of timber was lost. A telegram from Sydney says:—The schooner Stormbird has arrived at Newcastle, with tho crew of the barque Douglas. Capt. Savers reports that the ship was bound for Japan, when she struck upon a reef, and the boats becoming' useless, they constructed a raft, on which they existed several days without food, when the Stormbird bore in sight, and rescued them.
