NICHOLS V. M'GOWAN.
(To tie Editor of the Westport Times.) Sib, —Having seen in your issue of Thursday last a letter by some person signing himself " Fair-play," I think it my duty to answer him, having been one of the defendants in that case. He says there is no law bearing on the case, therefore Nichols and party ought to have gained it by equity, but he has shown no reason why. Sureiy it was not the evidence by the plaintiffs. He says all losers feel annoyance, and I should say especially Nichols and party. A claim ready to go to work and get gold in was worth fishing for. He says also it cost i-20 to bring a case before the Warden. Whose fault is that ? The first tiling a number of miners do, instead of allowing a cose to be decided on its merits, is to fly and procure the services of the learned gentlemen. That is where the money goes. The next time " Fair-play " writes, it would be more becoming if he confined himself to the truth.—l am, Sir, yours &c. J. W. WILKINS. Hatter's Terrace, June 7.
