The brigantine Prosperity, from Melbourne on the 25th nit., arrived off VVestport on Sunday, and waits the arrival of the tug-steamer Lioness.
The cutter Harry Bluff, which was stranded at Mokihinui, was got off. not much damaged, and has arrived here for repairs. The Waterman cleared out from Melbourne for VVestport on the 27th ult. The Zephyr was to sail from Melbourne for Ilokitika on the 29th ult. The Sarah and Mary was to follow. The Tararua was to leave for the Bluff on the 3!st ult., and the Omeo for Ilokitika on the 7th inst. The I O was loading for the Grey. The Tararua has already arrived.
The Aborigine sailed from Hokitika fjr Melbourne on the 31st March last, and the Prosperity on the Ist of April. The Alma followed two hours and a half after the lust named vessel. The Alma reached Melbourne first, beating the Prosperity by a day, and the Aborigine by two days four hours.
The steamship Alhambra arrived iu Hokitika roadstead at t! p.m. on Friday. The Alhambra left Port Phillip Heads at G.;iO p.m. on the 28th, and experienced strong east and E.X.E. winds for the first five days, accompanied by very heavy head sea. She brings five saloon and forty steerage passengers. The steamer Yarra continues to make regular trips from Hokitika to the Tcroniakau.
The Provincial Council of Otago have voted £2OOO as a yearly subsidy to a steamer to trade fortnightly between Dunedin and Ilokitika, via Blulf and the Southern ports. It is stated by the IP. V. Times that the owners of the Bruce have offered to take up the contract.
The Marlborough Express of May 201 h reports that the p.s. Lyttclton is to be sold, and that Captain Scott intends purchasing a vessel of his own, and putting her on the line between Blenheim and .Nelson. The schooners J. B. llusscll and Joanno, belonging to Auckland, are reported as missing. They left Canterbury early in April, and have not been heard of sir.ee. The barque Alliance, bound from Liverpool for Nelson, sailed on the 7th December, and has therefore been at sea 18-1 days. Advices from Brazil give the particulars of the loss of the Santiago, mail steamer, belonging to the Pacific Steam Company of Liverpool, in (he Straits of Magellan. "The Santiago filled so quickly that no portion other cargo could be saved, and the mails and JtMOO.OOU in silver are stated to have gone down with her. The passengers were saved.
