A severe shock of earthquake was felt here at eight o'clock on Saturday morning, the earthquake wave passing apparently from N.E. to S.W. The earthquake has inflicted considerable damage throughout the city. The Government buildings, the Bank of New South Wales, the Town Hall, and other stone buildings have been greatly cracked and otherwise injured. A great number of brick chimneys were thrown down, and others will require to be taken down, as they arc at present in a condition dangerous to life and to adjoining property. It has been the severest shock of earthquake that has ever been felt here. Fortunately no lives were lost. Another slight shock of earthquake was felt at twenty minutes past seven on Saturday evening, but no damage was then done.
