Waipara returned on Saturday, from Nelson, where she had undergone a thorough overhaul externally and internally. An attempt was made on Wednesday night by some scoundrel to sink the steamer Ynrra, then lying at the Hokitika wharf. The vessel had fully four feet of water in her hold, and had sunk to the sponsons, and in a short time, had the cock not been stopped, would have sunk altogether. Mr Mortimer, the chief - officer of the Echooner Mavis, which lias arrived at Charleston from Lyttelton, while fishing off Bock Point, caught a very large shark, and while hauling it over the side was severely bitten in the leg. For three days ha was confined to his berth, but is now recovering.
