CHARLESTON.
(FROM OTTB OWN COBEESPOIfDENT.) A meeting was held at the Melbourne Hotel on Thursday evening for the purpose of promoting the object of bringing in a water-race from the Four-mile. There were present Messrs Neale, Jones, G-asquoine, Bain, McCarthy, Parsons, Parker, Pearson, Haines, Jackson, Thos. McCarthy, Henderson, and McOwen. Mr Neale was voted to the chair, and briefly explained the object of the meeting. Mr G-asquoine said that it was Mr Jackson and he who had convened the meeting. The advantage to be derived from the undertaking would be considerable. Any money now subscribed would be taken out of the subscribed capital when the company was formed, and he proposed to bring the water either from the Nile or the Four-mile, so that it could be brought on to Candlelight Flat. Mr Broad had informed him that Mr Greenwood would make a preliminary survey of the proposed race free of charge. Mr Jackson proposed, and Mr Jones seconded, " That fifty scrip be issued at £1 each, so as to cover preliminary expenses." This was agreed to, and the fifty scrip were taken at once by those present and paid for. Mr Jones suggested that they should appoint a Committee to wait on Mr Broad relative to the services of Mr Greenwood, and the following gentlemen were selected to form the Committee: Messrs Jackson, Gasquoine, McCarthy, Parker, and McOwen.
