CHARLESTON.

(feoji our own coheespoxdext.) April 12. The fine fall of rain we have experienced the last clay or two has enabled our mining population to resume the important and very interesting operation of "washing-up," a great number of claims in the district having been lately at a standstill for want of \|ater. On the Deep Lead, Candlelight, a share in Gordon and party's claim has lately changed hands. The last dividend, from a mouth's crushing, gave a sum of £Gi per man, clear of all expenses. This claim has about two months' work oi similar ground, and the remainder will pay good wages. Jones and party, who with Henderson and party are bringing in water from beyond the Deep Creek, expect to have it in, in about three weeks' time. The ground-sluicing claim of Davy and party have about 500 tons of dirt to hand. The present fall of rain will enable them to put it through. A share in Pero and party's claim changed hands during the week for the sum of «£GO. This claim has paid good wages for some time. On Whiskey Terrace Clark and party have been engaged repairing their dam, which had given way. fortunately the leakage was discovered m time, and by opening their bywash, they prevented what would otherwise have caused great damage. On Duffer's Hill, the last prospecting party after eight months' struggle, have finally abandoned their claim, after disposing of their half interest m a very large dam and race to one party, and plant, &c., to another. The mining plant known as the Duke of -Edinburgh's, on Brown's Terrace, has been purchased, and is now in course of erection on Brandon Hill. The purchasers having some excellent cement, and having only a horse machine, were dissatisfied, and have adopted a speedier method of procuring the gold. On the Darkie's Terrace, Back head, and Old Town Lead, all parties are busily at work.
